New German roadtax (toll, Maut) charges for trucks as from 1st of January 2015

As of 1 January 2015, there will be new toll rates for trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 12 tonnes and higher in Germany. The new toll rates are set down in the German Federal Trunk Road Toll Act (BFStrMG). They are based on the results of the current report on infrastructure costs (Wegekostengutachten) published in 2014. As of 2015, the costs for the air pollution caused by the trucks will be included in the toll amounts charged. The amount of the toll is based on the emission class of the truck.

The toll is calculated as follows: the total amount is based on the distance that a vehicle or a vehicle combination travels on a road subject to toll and a toll rate per kilometre that includes the infrastructure costs and costs due to the air pollution caused by the vehicle.

  • Infrastructure costs are rated differently for trucks with up to three axles and trucks with four or more.
  • Costs for the air pollution caused are determined based on the vehicle’s emission class, which is used as the basis for assigning each vehicle to one of the six categories: A, B, C, D, E or F.

A new toll rate for vehicles with emission class Euro 6 (Category A) has been introduced. No costs for this modern truck will be charged for causing air pollution. Only the infrastructure costs are calculated for the toll rate for this type of truck.       source: , 10-11-2014
